The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.

Dear Mr Mitchell,
The Prime Minister’s support of Mr Cummings
Two and a half weeks ago, my husband received the awful news that his mother only had a very short time left. Against all instinct, taking into account government guidance not to travel and concerned about the possibility of spreading coronavirus, although he had no symptoms, he made the heart-breaking decision not to go to Manchester to be at her side in her last few hours. Next week is her funeral. Some of his brothers are not going to be there as they live too far away to make the journey in a day, are reliant on public transport and have nowhere to stay.
People right across our Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield have similar stories of the incredible sacrifices they have made to stop the coronavirus. No doubt you will have heard from many of them. Our neighbourly support network has been contacted by numerous concerned sons and daughters, living hundreds of miles away, who were anxious about elderly parents in Sutton and were asking for help in getting food and medicines to them. It turns out that, contrary to common understanding, it actually would have been entirely acceptable for them to have travelled across the country to provide the support needed. There are hundreds of other tragic stories.
Your local Liberal Democrat party has suspended all campaigning activities for the duration of the current Covid-19 emergency and is instead concentrating its efforts on supporting the community and national response to the virus.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton Coldfield Jenny Wilkinson introduces herself and her policies on stopping Brexit, the climate emergency, education funding, creating a fairer economy and investing in the NHS and social care. Born and raised in Sutton Coldfield, a mother of three children and school governor, she is the perfect choice to represent the interests of the people of Sutton Coldfield. And as a Forensic Accountant, you can be sure that her honesty, integrity and accountability are second to none in politics.
Local supporters of Liberal Democrat candidate Jenny Wilkinson braved the cold and rain yesterday evening to hear the concerns of Sutton Coldfield residents and explain the benefits of Liberal Democrat policies. Chief among these, of course, is the £50 billion that could be saved over the next 5 years by remaining in the EU and used for badly needed investment in public services. As Local Party Chairman Stephen Allsop said, "People told us it was the first time any party had knocked on their door ever. There was no love for Corbyn or Johnson, and even Tory voters seem to be holding their nose."
Sutton Coldfield Liberal Democrats have announced that Jenny Wilkinson will stand for the party in the next General Election. Jenny previously represented the Lib Dems in the 2017 General Election and was a candidate for the European Parliament earlier this year.
Jenny was born and brought up in Sutton Coldfield and is mum to three young boys. She is actively involved in the local community, including as a school governor and a founding Trustee of FOLIO Sutton Coldfield, which runs a range of events in the town centre library.
