Ann slams council over fireworks axe

Pype Hayes campaigner Ann Holtom has attacked the decision by Birmingham's Labour council to cut funding for the annual Bonfire Night fireworks in Pype Hayes Park - again. Last year the Council, claiming pressure on its budgets, said it was unable to reach a deal with a suitable sponsor and the annual event failed to take place. This year the Council has again failed to find private help to fund the event.

Ann said: "Yet again this incompetent Labour council is unable to find to money for a popular local event. They say they haven't been able to find a suitable private sponsor but how hard have they actually been looking? Last year they said they were already in discussion with a private sponsor for 2016 - so much for the council's negotiating skills! Private sponsorship for plenty of other events in the city for which the council has withdrawn funding has been sought and found, yet residents in our part of Birmingham are ignored again."

"This useless Labour council, the largest local authority in Europe, can't even manage to fund or organise sponsorship for a local fireworks display, no wonder our city finances are in such a mess."
