Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Ann Holtom has welcomed the publication of the Birmingham Connected white paper which contains proposals for improving transport across the city and includes the re-opening and upgrading of rail routes via Castle Vale and The Fort. The plans also support new housing and employment in the areas served by these routes.
In a statement Ann Holtom said: "I have been privileged to campaign for years alongside local residents to bring back a station to Castle Vale. Such a move would improve local transport links, shorten journey times into Birmingham and bring greater social mobility. There have been setbacks, such as Labour's decision to sell land vital to the potential redevelopment of improved rail links. But if the proposals in the white paper are implemented we will see the re-opening of a station on Castle Vale. I will continue to lobby Birmingham City Council, Network Rail, the Transport Authority and the government, to ensure local residents get the transport connections they deserve."
