Candidates say "thank you"

Brum

The Liberal Democrats candidates in Erdington and Sutton Coldfield have issued a statement thanking everyone who came out to vote for them in the general election. Both results showed a small swing to the Lib Dems.

Speaking after their counts at the NIA in Birmingham and Sutton Town Hall, both Cllr Ann Holtom and Dr Richard Brighton wished to thank the voters who supported them and their team of helpers on what party leader Nick Clegg has described overall as a 'disappointing result.' Both candidates said they were proud to have campaigned on the party's theme of fairness for Britain: fairer taxes, cut taxes for those at the bottom and in the middle and close the loopholes for those at the top; for a new economy to get the banks lending again, to invest in green infrastructure and so create jobs; for a fairer and cleaner politics, to reform Parliament, to deliver a fairer voting system, protect your freedoms and give you the right to sack corrupt MPs and for a fair chance for every child, extra funding for schools, to cut class sizes and give all children a fair chance.
