Last week in Birmingham there were Council by-elections in Hall Green and Perry Barr, alongside the West Midlands Combined Authority election for the new Mayor. All three Liberal Democrat candidates in these elections achieved good results.
Best of all, in Perry Barr ward, Morriam Jan was elected as the local councillor to continue the good work of former Lord Mayor of Birmingham Ray Hassall, who sadly passed away in March. Tanveer Choudhry and his team worked hard to increase the Lib Dem vote in Hall Green from 7% to 25%, taking the party from 4th to 2nd. And after a long campaign Beverley Nielsen successfully finished 3rd in the Mayoral election, ahead of both UKIP and the Greens.
These are encouraging signs for the Liberal Democrats as the general election campaign hots up.
