Gordon Brown has finally stopped putting off the inevitable and has announced the General Election will be held on May 6th.
The Liberal Democrat candidates for Erdington and Sutton Coldfield have both welcomed this news and are ready to ask the electorate: Do you want real change or just more of the same?
Cllr Ann Holtom, Liberal Democrat candidate for Erdington said: "This election is an exciting opportunity. The choice in this election is between more of the same with Labour or real change with the Liberal Democrats. In Erdington we have the husband of a Labour minister parachuted in as Labour candidate. My campaign will be based on my record of action and service to local people and the four campaign priorities: fair taxes; a fair start for every child; fair, clean and local politics and a fair, green economy with jobs that last."
Dr Richard Brighton, the candidate for Sutton Coldfield added: "In this election, people have a real choice. That's why this election is wide open. For too long the Conservatives have had a monopoly of political power in Sutton and I will be putting the case for real change in this constituency. Only the Liberal Democrats can clean up politics, deliver fairness and change Britain for good."
