Tyburn car-jacking: local Councillor praises police response

crime scene

Cllr Ann Holtom, Liberal Democrat councillor for Tyburn Ward, has praised the police for their quick response in answer to a car-jacking at gunpoint which happened in Pype Hayes last Tuesday. A terrified couple were ordered out of their car on Chester Road but the police used motorway vehicles and a helicopter to trace and follow the stolen car. The police later arrested two men in Winson Green.

Cllr Holtom, whose home is not far from the scene of the crime, said "This was a frightening and horrible crime. It is always a great shock when these violations take place in the area you live and my sympathies go out to the victims and to all local residents."

In her role as ward councillor, Ann is in regular touch with the community police officers responsible for this part of Erdington and will be raising the issue of car-jacking with them seeking up to date advice which can be given to residents to help protect themselves if they are unlucky enough to be a victim of this sort of crime.
